English Helper for Chinese Learners

This plugin adds a few functions which help Chinese students learn English. These are:

• Auto generation of English definition
• Auto generation of Chinese definition
• Auto generation of English pronunciation (IPA)
• Auto downloading of pronunciation audio

Suitable for GRE, IELTS, TOEFL or indeed any Chinese speaker wanting to learn English.

Getting Started

From the main Anki Window do this:

Settings --> Deck Properties --> Add --> Add: English -->Ok --> Close

Then when you add material, make sure the model (at the top of the add cards window) is set as English.

You should see many more fields to fill in. Type an English word and press tab. It should then auto-generate dictionary definitions and pronunciation for you

Problems with Pronunciation Font

If the pronunciation characters aren't displaying correctly, you need to install a font which supports the International Phonetic Alphabet.

Field generation too slow

If you find the generation of fields when making cards too slow, then you may want to turn the downloading of pronunciation audio off. This is the most time-consuming function of the plugin. To turn it off, from the main anki window click Tools --> "Don't Fetch English Pronunciation Audio". Then you can continue creating cards.
