An increasing number of anki users are starting to look into the smartphone market in the hope of running anki while on the move. The ability to run anki smoothly seems to be a strong factor in their choice of a device, so this page is dedicated to comparing the various apps available for handheld devices, and to comparing the devices themselves in regards to studying via Anki.

Official iPhone/iTouch/iPad client
AnkiOnline
AnkiOnline allows you to study synchronised decks online via a web browser. However, it cannot be used off-line.
AnkiMini
AnkiMini is a small Anki client that allows you to review and sync your decks on a number of mobile devices such as Nokia tablets and Zauruses.
iAnki
iAnki is an Anki plugin that allows you to run a simple Anki client on iPhone/iPod Touch (2.1+ software), and on platforms that support Google's Gears.
iAnki is like a small server that you setup on your machine, and then access via your mobile device via your browser. You can then save that browser page onto your smartphone for offline use. It can also synchronise your deck with your deck on the host server.
AnkiDroid
AnkiDroid is an Anki port to Google's Android Operating System, directly accessible from the Android Market. It does not have synchronization yet.
Devices and Platforms
Windows Mobile
iAnki and AnkiOnline are currently the only means to use study on with Anki via Windows mobile. No native app seems to be planned for the foreseeable future, this makes Windows Mobile a poor choice for Anki users.

AnkiOnline on Windows mobile works best using a reduced interface using a link like this: "http://anki.ichi2.net/simple/main?u=USER&p=PASS&k=1"
This works well for decks without media. Of course it only works while being online.
For more information log into AnkiOnline and have a look on "Review (Other)".
